How to convert decimal hours to hours and minutes

01020304050607.75 → 7 h + 0.75 × 60 = 45 min → 7:45

The fraction after the point as minutes on a ruler; the circle is the nearest whole minute the h:mm answer uses.

The digits before the point are already the hours. Multiply the digits after the point by 60 to get the minutes: 7.75 is 7 hours and 0.75 × 60 = 45 minutes, written 7:45.

When the minutes do not come out whole, round them to the nearest minute for a clock-style answer. 7.33 gives 0.33 × 60 = 19.8 minutes, so 7:20. If you need the total number of minutes instead of a split, 465 rather than 7:45, use the decimal to minutes converter.

Decimal hours are a duration, not a time of day

The decimal from the converter laid onto a clock: pick a start time and read the finish.

7.75 hours means a length of time, not quarter to eight. To find a finishing time, add the duration to a start time: 7.75 hours after 9:00 am is 4:45 pm. The time to decimal calculator works in the opposite direction, from two clock times to the decimal hours between them.
